Flight training at Florida Helicopters is personalized, fun, and affordable for all certificates and skill levels. Our training programs are based on the FAA Part 141 and Part 61 training course outlines.

Florida Helicopters is a FAA approved Part 141 Pilot School, TSA provider and is authorized under Federal Law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.

All training courses are designed around a one-on-one approach. You will not train in a group environment. This provides our students with the individual attention to meet your needs around your schedule. Classes are open all year round.

Based at the Pompano Beach Airpark in South Florida we have the ability for year round training. Our diverse training location allows for a wide range of learning experiences. Our professional flight training staff provides our students with the real world training while paying special attention to aviation safety.

Your aviation career will begin with training with over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry. All of our flight staff is trained to the highest FAA industry standards. Our goal is to provide you with the best helicopter training possible.

PRIVATE PILOT COURSE

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum 17 years of age prior to course completion
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Hold a valid 3rd Class FAA medical certificate
  • Hold a FAA Student Pilot Certificate prior to Solo Flight

Certification Requirements

  • 40 hours of flight time
  • 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor
  • 3 hours of dual cross-country flight training
  • 3 hours of dual night flight training
  • 10 hours of solo flight time
  • 35 hours of Ground Instruction

Recurrent Training


FAA Flight Review for the Robinson R22/R44
The FAA Flight Review is required every 24-calendar months to keep your pilot certificate valid. This review is based on the FAA guidance and the SFAR 73 regulations in 14CFR Part 61 and AC 61-98C.

IPC for the Robinson R22/R44
The FAA Instrument Proficiency Check will get you current under the hood again. You can train in the R-22 or R-44 under simulated instrument conditions based on the 14CFR Part 61 regulations and AC 61-98C.

Time Building R22 R44 Night, XC, IFR
We can provide helicopter flight time building towards a certificate or rating. Night time, Cross Country time, Instrument time requirements, or any other time building or skills needed for your next position. Ask about our discount block rates for time building.

CFI/CFII Recurrency training R22/R44
Have you let your CFI Certificate Expire? We can train you back to ground and flight Commercial Standards to take your Practical Test with the FAA.

SFAR 73 Robinson Transition R22/R44
Do you hold a FAA Rotorcraft/Helicopter Certificate but have never flown a Robinson Aircraft? The required SFAR73 10-hour transition training in the R-22 or the R-44 can be done by one of our Certified Flight Instructors.

CFI R22/R44 SFAR73 B-5 Training
What is a B-5? If you would like to provide flight instruction in a Robinson Aircraft you have to complete the SFAR73 2. (b) (5) for the Robinson R-22 or the R-44. This flight training is based on the SFAR73 requirements and final testing done by a FAA aviation safety inspector or authorized designated examiner.

Advanced Autorotation course R22/R44
After completion of your Rotorcraft/Helicopter Commercial Pilot Certificate and you hold FAA Commercial Standards you can take the Advanced Autorotation Course. This course demonstrates real world situation awareness in the Robinson R-22 or R-44 when dealing with autorotation’s. Ground and flight training are part of this course.

What to expect?
Our friendly office staff and office dog “Jack” will greet you. They will make you feel at home and give you your safety briefing. Your instructor pilot will brief you on how to fly and some do’s and don’ts.

What to wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Skirts, dresses or loose fitting clothing is not recommended.

What to bring?
Everyone prefers to bring sunglasses and a camera.

The flight training received during your discovery flight will count towards the flight time required for a helicopter pilot certificate.

Our Tours

North Miami Beach Tour- 42-60 minutes
Stretching down to Bal Harbor and through Aventura you will see the beautiful coast line of South Florida. Just south of the Port you will fly by John Lloyd State Park, Hallandale Beach, Sunny Isles and Haulover Park.

Fort Lauderdale Beach Tour- 30-42 minutes
Flying through Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Las Olas to Port Everglades you will get a great view of this busy city without the traffic. The beach at Bahia Mar and the swimming hall of fame are just a few landmarks you will see on this flight.

Intercostal Waterway Tour- 24-30 minutes
See the beautiful houses and boats on display in the waterways. Known as "The Venice of America" Fort Lauderdale and Miami are home to 300 miles of inland waterways to enjoy.

Hillsboro Inlet lighthouse Tour- 18-24 minutes
Built in 1907 the lighthouse is a piece of Florida history. During this tour you will see this beautiful structure from a new view. You will also see the Boca Inlet, home to the famous "pink" building.

Drone Services


Florida Helicopter is offering a Boot camp Part 107 UAS ground course.

The main objective is to prepare you to pass the FAA Part 107 Aeronautical Knowledge Test.

We offer a comprehensive course created by our Certified Flight Instrument Instructor (CFII) of our Part 141 Flight School. Our course covers all knowledge concepts that the FAA requires remote pilots to learn. We provide test questions for you to practice on, every step of the way. Take the quiz at the end of each lecture, plus our full-length practice test at the end of the training(60 questions each).

Foreign National


Requirements for Foreign Nationals

HDW FLORIDA HELICOPTERS, INC. is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. The I-20 Form is required by the US Department Of State and the Department Of Homeland Security in order to receive the M1 Visa. Florida Helicopters is a TSA provider for the required background check prior to beginning flight training.

Who needs a M-1 Visa?
Any person that does not hold a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or a US Residency Card or a Canadian or Bermudian national will need to apply for an M-1 Student Visa for the duration of training if you want to receive a FAA Certificate or Rating. You cannot train toward a Certificate or Rating on any other Visa.

Do you need TSA clearance?
Any person that does not hold a US Passport or US Birth Certificate will need to apply for and get approval by the TSA prior to beginning flight training.

All students that hold a US Passport or US Birth Certificate will have to provide a copy prior to beginning flight training and receive an endorsement from the school stating you are a US citizen.

You do not have to be in the United States to begin this process. We will work with you via phone calls and emails to provide you with assistance with your applications.

Verification of a Foreign License



Are you applying for a certificated issued based on a foreign license?
Florida Helicopters can help you with the FAA Verification of a Foreign License Application in office, on the phone or via email. Please make an appointment.

The application for the Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License, Rating and Medical Certification form can take 45 to 90 days to receive your FAA Verification Letter.

Please do not make any travel arrangement or appointments until you have received your FAA Verification Letter in the mail.

After you have received your FAA Restricted Private Certificate you will need to complete a FAA Flight Review with an Authorized Instructor prior to flying with your new Certificate.
